History Friends Gathering 2026
Celebrating the People Who Keep History Alive
For nearly eight years, the Clarksburg History Museum has worked to preserve and share the stories of Harrison County. Along the way, we have welcomed thousands of visitors, hosted students and researchers, collected artifacts, recorded memories, and created new opportunities for people to connect with their local history.
None of that happens alone.
Behind every exhibit, program, tour, publication, and preservation project are the people who make this work possible. Donors, sponsors, volunteers, members, community partners, and friends have all played a role in helping the museum grow from a small volunteer effort into a thriving community resource.
That is why we are proud to introduce the History Friends Gathering.
This special cocktail reception, presented in partnership with The Morris, will bring together the people who have supported the museum's mission and helped ensure that local history remains accessible for future generations. The evening will include remarks on the museum's recent growth, a look at current and future projects, opportunities to connect with fellow supporters, and the presentation of the inaugural History Keeper Award.
The History Keeper Award recognizes an individual whose dedication to history, historic preservation, and community stewardship has helped shape Harrison County and preserve its stories for generations to come. The award reflects a simple belief: history is not only found in photographs, artifacts, and buildings. It is also found in the people who care enough to preserve them. Nominate someone for the 2026 History Keeper Award.
The past year has demonstrated just how important community support can be. When funding challenges threatened the museum's future, supporters from across West Virginia and around the country stepped forward. Their generosity allowed us to continue operating, expand programming, launch new educational initiatives, and welcome more visitors than ever before.
The History Friends Gathering is an opportunity to celebrate that shared success.
Whether you have been involved with the museum since its earliest days or have recently discovered our work, we invite you to join us as we reflect on how far we have come and look ahead to what comes next.
History belongs to all of us. Together, we can ensure that the stories of Clarksburg and Harrison County continue to be preserved, shared, and celebrated.
